Midterm Assignment

Midterm Assignment
Letter to a friend:
English 1102 is one of the first courses that have made me think more about one topic and go into details without realizing how much work I have been doing on the same topic. Not only does it make you think in different ways but it gives you a chance to find out what issues in life you are really interested in.  It also gives ideas on how to fix these issues and start working on improving them no matter what your topic is or how hard it is to research. It has been a great experience working with class mates that share the same ideas I do and that have the same motivation of writing that I have. Engaging with the instructor also had a positive impact on learning more about my grammar mistakes or composition mistakes that I have made throughout the semester. All in all, I think that if I ever had the chance to retake this course I would do it in a heartbeat, because not only does it expand your writing skills, but it motivates you into writing more and learning from the mistakes you might not have paid attention to in the past. I have gained so much knowledge in this course and the instructor gives you so many opportunities to write about the same topic in different ways so I would definitely recommend taking this course to improve your writing abilities.
Sincerely ,
Majed Alnahidh
Major assignment reflection:
The three sided essay was one of the most difficult essays that I have worked on throughout the semester. Not because it was long or because of the time I was given to work on it, but it was because I had to write it in three different points of view which were not my opinion. The three sided essay helped improve my writing skills in ways nobody would imagine because it was the first time I had ever written a paper in that kind of criteria. I had to open my mind up to the way people felt about fast food and I had to think about the responses I would get from both my audience, which are mainly people that eat fast food on a regular day basis, and my peers who each had their own way of thinking and individual tips that could help me correct the mistakes that I have not realized that I had made. I choose this topic because I was having trouble finding the right types of food that would fulfill my nutritional needs and would help me get back in the shape I used to be when I was more athletic and had no worries other than how to play my best in a soccer match. Eating fast food affected me in different ways than it would usually affect people. I was actually losing weight, having medical issues and abdominal pain in my stomach, which I couldn’t quite put my finger on what was causing me to be sick more than I usually would in short periods of time. Researching about my topic has not only helped with my work in class but it also helped me find out why I was having all of these medical issues. After finding out all of the information I need to know about my topic I started eating healthier and I have seen many changes in my health ever since. Now I feel like the work that I have done throughout the semester has finally paid off, and the information I will include in my future essays will have a massive effect on my audience. Not only can I give a confident intellectual response to the questions I will be receiving from my peers but I feel that I have enough knowledge to prove that fast food is not only the main reason for obesity in the United States but I can also prove that it may cause other medical issues in the long run. The only problem I think I will be facing is finding more resources on the topic I am researching because it seems like most of the books and articles I am finding are repeating the same information that I have already gathered on my topic.
Two Cents on Peace Butter & Jelly:
I think that Peace Butter & Jelly was helpful to me more than other students because reading it couldn’t have come at a better time, its recipes are so unique and mouthwatering that it inspired me to start eating the right food that would have the right nutritional contents that my body needs. It also motivated me with the topic I chose for the semester long projects and made me dislike fast food in so many ways.
Haiku:
Honesty is a key in life and I think that our generation never wants to work too much but I have enjoyed every topic I wrote about because it was a topic that I choose to write about.
